In English this month we have been reading the novel: Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It was a great book set during World War 2. We also did projects on different topics based on WW2 and created slideshows to learn more about the war.
We were learning about Oíche Shamhna in Irish. Is maith liom Oíche Shamhna.
In maths we were doing division,multiplication and revising tables. It was hard at the start but once you know how to do it, it gets better.
In PE we learned how to play Gaelic football. It is a fun sport with lots of techniques. It’s a traditional Irish sport so it is always nice to learn.
In art this month we recreated Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’. It was very tough but it was fun. We used oil pastels. It is a very intriguing piece of artwork dating back to 1893.
We completed the first challenge in Minecraft: Education Edition, which was to build ‘Our Dream Home’ with a garden. It was very cool. When we finished we had to document it by taking photos of our houses and creating a book. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will start the next challenge.
A very nice thing we did this month was when our class and Mr Brennan’s 6th class went on the Ballisodare Trail down by St. Fechin’s Graveyard. It was very educational as we learned many new things. For example the type of leaves on an evergreen are called needles and the mountain behind The Mill apartments is named Slieve Dartan.
One of the best things we did this month was we were able to participate in a Zoom call with Fidelma Healy-
Eames who played a recorded video of her interviewing David Walliams. It was brilliant, he read extracts from his books and we got to learn new things we never knew about him, for example, when he was a child his parents brought him and his sister to the library every two weeks.
To prepare for Confirmation any child in our class who is going to make their Confirmation went to mass every Friday this month.
We had a lovely day today dressing up and watching the movie ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’.
