November in Sixth Class
By Cara and Christian
In 6th class this November we have been very busy doing our new novel The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
We use our comprehension strategies such as connections, visualisations and predictions while reading this novel! It is a very interesting book.
We have also been very busy doing projects on a country of our own choice.
I chose Australia (Cara)
I chose Germany and Romania (Christain)
For the project we had to research and write all about the countries food, population, tradition and locations
We also have been doing work on Daniel O’ Connel in History!
We learned that Daniel founded the Catholic association in 1823, we also learned that he was known as ‘the liberator’. He died on May 15 1847.
We have been working very hard in maths making tessellations, working with hexominoes and learning how to divide fractions. We learned a new word reciprocals- reciprocals are used when dividing fractions
Before the World Cup started Mrs. McMoreland created a sweepstake where we had to choose 4 countries from 4 pots and a player from another pot. Each country and player was given a value and our chosen selection could not have a value of more than 30. It has been very exciting and nerve wrecking tallying up the scores. At the moment Ríona is in the lead.
We’re really looking forward to Christmas and have been practising our Christmas play ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’. We have lots of songs to learn but are enjoying working with fifth class.
We also popped down to our friends in Junior Infants and read them some stories at the end of the month. We love visiting them.
