January:
In January, 6th Class were busy doing many exciting activities.
In English, we started the TSI programme to help us with our comprehension strategies and our reading, our novels are Mr Stink and Holes.
In Religion, we chose our Confirmation names and did projects on the saints we chose and the saints that inspire us. We also started the ‘You Shall Be My Witness’ programme with Fr. Towey, which ran after Mass for four weeks. At school,we learned all about the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit and the 8 Beatitudes.
In Gaeilge, bhíomar ag cáint faoi an téama ‘Sa Bhaile’.
In Maths, we learned about fractions, decimals and percentages. We also learned about exponents, multiplication, division and money.
For P.E we did a lot of rounders and dodgeball. We love rounders and are very good at playing it.
In History we did projects on the Reformation in Ireland using google slides. We learned how to add timetimes to a presentation.
In Science we have been reading the Eurekas.
For our Junior Entrepreneur Project, Cecil Whiteside, the owner of Supervalu, Ballisodare and Centra, Collooney, came to our classroom to give us tips about entrepreneurship. He spoke to us about his experiences as an entrepreneur in our locality.
February:
6th Class had a great February.
In English we continued with TSI.
In Maths we learned about length, decimals, fractions, percentages, time, distance, speed, international time zones and equations.
In JEP we put all our information together for our Wild Wilderness Handbook. We hope to sending home information soon about this and look forward to receiving the continued support of the pupils and parents of St. John’s.
In P.E we played rounders and we started gaelic training with Nathan and Caoimhe.
Due to the General Election, we had our own mock election in school. It was great fun. Thomas Walsh, Neasa Cosgrove, Marc MacSharry and Martin Kenny were all elected.
We have been doing the transition programme with Joe Griffin to prepare us for secondary school and have been learning about cyberbullying and internet safety. It was all very useful and interesting.
In Art, we made polygon hearts for Valentines Day.
For Science, we learned about Science and Ceramics and even made our own clay. It was really good fun and we made great things out of it.

In SESE we did projects on Dr. Michael Ryan, Executive Director, WHO Health Emergencies Programme. We decided to do projects on him as he is from Curry in County Sligo. He has been on television many times talking about the Coronavirus.
In History we are currently doing projects in pairs using book creator. We are making books about inspiring women to mark International Women’s Day which is Sunday March 8th.
We also learned about Daniel O’ Connell.
We are looking forward to March in 6th Class.
