December in Sixth Class
by Emily and Daisy
This month in sixth class…
We did secret Santa in our class. We each picked names from a box and bought our person €5-10 gifts. We had lots of fun!
In maths we learned more about fractions such as ratio, multiplying and the unitary method.
In English we finished The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, yesterday we watched the film. It was interesting but very sad. It is an excellent book.
Our class went on a visit to St Mary’s College. We listened to their festive Christmas carols and had a wonderful time.
In art we took on the project of making Christmas Stockings! We all got two pieces of fabric and thought of our own designs. We had so much fun.
Half of our class went to St Brigid’s Church and sang carols with the church choir. We were practicing for weeks and did brilliantly!
We had lots of fun with the junior infants this month. We all went to one junior infant as usual, and made melting snowman cookies with them! We all got plates of icing, marshmallows, chocolate chips and got tubes of different coloured icing. We put the white icing on the biscuit and then put the marshmallow on top. Then we decorated by putting on chocolate chips and coloured icing to make a face!
We also took part in multiple chess tutorials, so far we have learned how the pawns, rook, knight and bishops move. We had to play different mini games to get the hang of it but we got quite good in the end. Maybe one of us will be a chess champion one day…
We performed a Christmas play! It was about the 12 days of Christmas and everyone got roles apart from the stage hands. We got cool costumes, learned lots of songs and most importantly had fun! We performed in front of our parents and the school.
We took part in a drawing tutorial and drew lots of Christmas characters. We drew elves, snowmen, reindeer, Santa and Santa's house. We all had fun and it was a nice way to start off Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone!
