September in Sixth Class

September in Sixth Class

The Month of September

by Isabelle Meehan

This month in Sixth Class we did lots of fun activities. We are learning to play the ukulele with Anna as part of the Music Generation Programme until Christmas and we are really enjoying it.

At the start of the month we had a breakfast morning where our teacher made us hot chocolate, croissants and pain au chocolat to celebrate the great performance of the U12 girls Gaelic team who were narrowly defeated by Curry in the County Final.

Aaron has started teaching us Gaelic Football and will be doing sessions with us “As Gaeilge” because he is from the Gaeltacht in Donegal.

We have also started reading our class novel “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas” and have recently completed projects to gain knowledge on the historical context of the setting of the novel. We used the new set of school laptops to research our projects.

We also completed a history project on Ireland’s Christian Treasures.

We performed at the September Assembly with  the song Take My Hand – Picture This and The Dum Dum song with the help of Mr. Mulderrick playing the guitar in the background.

Last Friday we walked the Ballisodare Trail with 5th Class and completed a booklet on the nature around us. Thanks to Mrs. Walsh and Ms. McMahon for helping out in preparing the booklet.

Well done to Hajera and Darragh who represented Sixth Class in the Athletics Fest.

Darragh Morrissey is the new Student Council representative and Darragh Sweeney is the new Active Schools representative.

The rehearsals for “The Lion King” have started and we look forward to making it come alive with Mrs. McMoreland and Ms. O’ Flaherty.

If this month is anything to go by we’ll have a great year
