September 2017

As a school community, we are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our former pupil, Tommy Jackson following a tragic accident.  Tommy attended and represented our school showing great endeavour and humility; he showed respect to all, staff and fellow pupils alike.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Our sincere sympathies are extended to Tommy’s family – his Mum and Dad, Anne-Marie and Michael, his brother Niall and sister Ciara.  Our thoughts are also with his many aunts, uncles and cousins at this time.

Nature and Science Educator Michael Bell visits the school

Before the Easter holidays a Nature and Science educator, Michael Bell of Nature Learn,  came to the school and explored the Science strand of Living Things with each class. Michael showed the children a lovely, colourful power-point presentation about common flora and fauna found in Ireland. He discussed where these plants and animals can be found and what they need to survive in the wild. Michael also had some interesting artefacts with him. He brought a furry little friend, a stuffed Pine Martin and a vertebra and rib from a whale which had been washed up on a local beach.

Michael took each class outside to do some investigating of their own. They each got a clipboard and worksheet and had to complete a number of activities. Some activities were to get a leaf rubbing, find food that a bird might eat and they also used a pouter to find some mini beasts living in our school garden. Every class really enjoyed this activity.

World Book Day

On Friday 6th March 2015 we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters from books we have read.  The parade of characters in our GP Room was great – the thought and effort that went into all the costumes was incredible.

We have to thank the children for participating and their parents and families for helping out with the costumes.  Occasions like this really add to the positive atmosphere in our school and we owe huge thanks to all who made that possible.

Come – have a look at all the characters …. Harry Potter popped by …. a few Gangsta Grannies! …. Red Riding Hood was there ….. princesses …. superheroes – we had the lot!

Engineers Week

5th Class got an insight into the work of an engineer as part of Engineers Week.  A team from Abbott Ireland came to talk with the children – there was also some time for fun and a bit of construction!

Thank you to Abbott Ireland – and well done to all in 5th class!

Grandparents Day

As part of Catholic Schools Week the pupils of Senior Infants and 4th Class invited their grandparents to our school.  It was a lovely afternoon – the children were so proud to share their experience of school with their grandparents.  Our sincere thanks to all the grandparents who made such a special effort to be with us – your grandchildren truly appreciated it.  Thanks also to Ms McGinley and Mrs O’Neill for organising the occasion.

 Christmas Shoe Box Appealholly_corner_large

Our school has participated in the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal once again this year.   All 80 of the boxes put together by families from our school were collected today (13th November) to be delivered to children in time for Christmas.  This is a most generous act of giving at this special time of year – our sincere thanks to all contributed.

Our little elves from Senior Infants kindly helped to get the boxes to their final destination – thank you Senior Infants and Ms McPartland!

HH

A big “Thank you” to all the children and their parents and families for the incredible effort that was made – the costumes were magnificent!
