December in Sixth Class

December in Sixth Class

By: Clodagh Barrett

We have achieved a lot of things this December.

We went to Dublin on the 7th and had a wonderful time.

First, we went to St. Stephen’s Green shopping centre. On the way there we saw, the River Liffey, Liberty Hall, the old Bank of Ireland headquarters, Irish Times Headquarters, Trinity College and we walked up Grafton Street. When we arrived at St. Stephen’s Green shopping centre we did our Christmas shopping. Lots of people bought gifts for their Secret Santa.  Once our shopping was complete we went back out to St. Stephen’s Green Park and had our lunch. There were a lot of seagulls and pigeons and one landed on poor Mollie’s shoulder but Khyra soon made them fly off!!!

When we had finished our lunch we walked through the park to the National Concert Hall. It was massive, when we got inside we put our bags down and went to our seats. The RTE National Symphony Orchestra were already seated and tuning up, they played some songs we didn’t know and some we did and we sang along as best we could! Christopher Bell was the conductor. Listening and singing along to the Christmas tunes really got us into the festive spirit. Our favourite song that were performed was Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Finally before we boarded the train bound for Sligo at Connolly Station, we had a quick stop at McDonalds to refuel. We had a GREAT day in Dublin!!!!

St. Mary’s Music Club performed for the school last Friday, they were absolutely wonderful. It was most enjoyable, they played instruments and sang songs that we all knew and happily sang along to.

We also started and finished making our christmas stocking. These are stockings made out of felt, that we have sewn together and have sewn a little decoration in the middle of them. Some of the decorations were Christmas trees and others were presents, holly, an elf and some Christmas lights. They all are looking really well hanging in the G.P. room. As well as that we finished our novel ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and watched the movie. It was fun to learn about the war even if it had a really sad ending.

That’s not all that’s been happening in rang a sé, last Thursday we participated in the Parish Christmas Carol Service with St. Mary’s college and the Parish Choir in St. Brigid’s Church. We really enjoyed singing and listening to the songs, it was great.

As some parents already know last Tuesday, the 19th, we put on a little performance for just one day playing our ukuleles.  We played Deep in the heart of Texas, It all works out; by Riptide Movement, Jingle bells and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It was a great success and we all enjoyed it and we hope you did too!!!

We made Christmas cards using Scratch on the laptops. Some people made very impressive ones using lots of code.

AND FINALLY we ran our Santa Dash on 21st around the new running track, all weather pitch and the school it was great fun but tiring. Thanks to Ms. Tighe for organising this. We also were entertained by the junior classes in the G.P. room with plays, songs and dances that they had performed on Wednesday for their parents. They were brilliant.

That’s all for December, we’re all looking forward to the nice relaxing Christmas break!!!
