December in Sixth Class

December in Sixth class was as usual very busy. We continued with presenting our projects on famous Entrepreneurs. This was very enjoyable and we learned a lot about Entrepreneurs from Ireland and around the world.

We worked hard in our groups to produce presentations fit to show on Meet the Dragons Day. There were nine groups altogether with each group having their own individual idea as to what our class’s ‘Big Idea’ should be. Finally December 12th arrived. We presented our ideas to the Dragons. The Dragons were Mr Dillon, Mrs McMoreland and Cecil Whiteside(from Supervalu). It was held  in the GP Room. The feedback we received from the dragons was very positive and they commented how impressed they were by our ideas and presentations. They could not make their minds up between two ideas. The two groups have to make one final presentation before them before they give their final decision. The two ideas are Boredom Breaker Books and Q+A.

In Maths we learned about fractions and 2D shapes. We used tangrams to make different shapes. This was very difficult as we had to use all seven tangrams. We learned about multiplying and dividing fractions. We are full of knowledge now.

Last Thursday we went to Dublin and we had a fantastic time. It was great, we went on the train at 6:48am We were all so excited to be on the train. When we arrived in Dublin Mr Dillon gave us a walking tour of the city. We then went to St.Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, we got to go shopping for a hour and a half. It was brilliant. After shopping we walked to the National Concert Hall where we enjoyed ‘The Christmas Lunchtime Concert’ by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, it was fantastic. We then got to go to McDonalds. Once our bellies were full we headed back to Connolly Station to catch the 4.10 train back to Sligo. We arrived home just in time for the Parish Carol Service. It was wonderful. A most enjoyable day was had by all of us. Thanks to Niamh O’Driscoll and Leonard Dorian for all the hard work they put in every Wednesday preparing us for the Carol Service.

St. Mary’s Choir came to the school and they performed a fantastic show for us to get us into the festive mood. It was lovely to see past pupils of the school back to show off their talents.

In English we finished our novel ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, we then watched the movie, it was very sad. We loved the book and learned so much from it. We would highly recommend it if you haven’t read it yet.

We are sad to say that we are finished knitting for the year, thank you to the Ballisodare Knitting Club ladies who came into teach us. They were so kind and patient with us. They knitted us beautiful Christmas Stockings to hang on our tree. We will miss them.

We had a Santa Dash yesterday, we thank Ms. Tighe and her third class for the Christmas Circuits. They were great fun.

Saving the best till last, sixth class performed in the Christmas Performance, it was fantastic. Thanks to Róisín  from Music Generation who helped prepare us for this.

Finally today Santa came to our classroom and gave us all a treat. We also gave out our Secret Santa gifts. That was really exciting.

On a sad note we had to say goodbye to one of our classmates today. We wish her and her family all the best in their new adventure. We will miss you loads.

Finally to say to you all ‘Nollaig Shona Daoibh go leir’.
